Book Burning

Book Burning
Following Adolf Hitler’s appointment as chancellor of Germany in January 1933, the Nazis removed all traces of “Jewish culture” from German public life. In May 1933, under the direction of Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels, books written by Jews and by non-Jews identified as enemies of the Reich were publicly burned in bonfires that were lit on university campuses and in front of churches as well as other prominent buildings throughout Germany.
