Operation Intelligentsia

Operation Intelligentsia
In October 1939, Reinhard Heydrich directed office heads of the Reich Security Main Office (RSHA) to carry out the liquidation of the Polish leadership by the beginning of November. Members of the Ethnic German Self-Defense, under the leadership of the Einsatzgruppen, were primarily responsible for the executions that followed. According to historian Bogdan Musial, more than 45,000 Poles, including 7,000 Jews, had been killed in Operation Intelligentsia by the end of 1939.
