Children’s Transport

   During the 1930s, when it still was possible for Jews to emigrate from Germany, preference was given by German Jewish organizations to children and young men and women. As a consequence, various Kindertransporten were organized to expedite the migration of children from Germany to temporary or permanent shelters. Many of the youngsters from Zionist groups were sent in these transports to Palestine. The transports also had a more sinister connotation when they refer to the deportation of children, who were placed in trains or trucks whose destination was the death camps.
